Welcome to the new web pages for the UniS Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans Society. For prospective LGBT students who are thinking of coming to Surrey, we hope that you find our website informative, and that you apply to university with an informed insight as to what we have to offer. For current students, we have tried to include all the information you may need online in order to cater for not only out and active students, but also for students who may not be out.

:: September 2006:: Updates for the 2006/07 Academic Year ::

If you're not already signed up to the Mailing List, you can do so at the top right of this page to receive e-mails regarding meetings, Tease and any other related events. If you're experiencing any problems receiving these e-mails please contact any of the commitee and let us know!

A quick reminder: the first LGBT meeting for this year will be Tuesday 5th September at 7:00pm in Teaching Block Room 11 - please come along and show your support for the society!

Hope everybody is settling into being back at Uni...
I look forward to seeing you all soon!

:: January 2006:: Poster Campaign::

Please click on the poster below for details on LGBT meetings!

Hey Guys and Girls,

Just a note to say we are starting a new recruitment campaign around campus using these new posters! The aim is that people who do not know about the website or society can see them and check the website in private and get details about meetings!

We need people to help plaster campus with posters, if you have 10 mins free it would be a great help if we could get these great posters put up!

Hope to see you at the meetings, please come along and show your support for the society!! Social meetings are Tuesdays at 7pm in TB11.

:: August 2005 :: LGBT HANDBOOK ::

Hey Guys and Girls,

Hope your all having a good summer!

This is my first post so I guess I’d better introduce myself for those who don't know me. I'm Perry, the Representation & Welfare officer for USSU LGBT. I’ve just finished my first year of Chemistry. I live in north London and…………well I guess that’s it.

I am currently writing the 2005/06 LGBT Handbook, This will basically contain information about what the LGBT is, what we plan to do, and generally provide relevant information for LGBT students (particularly, but not exclusively, freshers).

If you have any thoughts about what this handbook should contain, any ideas and comments on what you think would benefit other students (or indeed yourselves) would be greatly appreciated.

If you want any more information on the handbook or anything else, please don't hesitate to mail me at raw-officer@surreylgbt.co.uk

Thank you, I look forward to seeing you all in September,

Perry

:: July 2005 :: NOTE FROM NEW PRESIDENT ::

Hey everyone!

Just to let you know that I was elected to be your President for the next year.

My name is Simon Nutbrown, and for the last year I have been a Sabbatical Officer for the Students' Union. This means that for the last year, I have been one of the 6 elected trustees of the Student's Union here at Surrey, and specifically my role was to run all the societies.
I am therefore in a unique position for the Society, in that I know it's parent institution incredibly well, and I know exactly what works well in a society and what doesn't. As well as the problems from our society, I can learn from the mistakes of others and I'm looking forward to helping this Society reach it's full potential, and providing LGBT students with the level of support they are entitled to.
An LGBT group has so much it can and should do, and I think that we need to look to successful organisations such as Sheffield and Brighton and model ourselves on the best parts of a range of institutions.
This is the part where I want feedback; I want you guys to grill me and let me know what bugs you about LGBT life at Surrey, and what I'm going to do about it.
Questions, Opinions and Rants will all be appreciated (If they're contrusctive!)

Please feel free to contact any of the committee memebers, with comments or suggestions or alternatively, post a message on the LGBT Forum (Link Above)

Look forward to seeing you all in September.

Simon Nutbrown
LGBT President.

:: May 9th 2005 :: LETTER FROM OUTGOING PRESIDENT
Dear all,

Tomorrow is our last LGBT night before a new committee is elected to bring the society into another year. As a final event, we are having a night in the Union on Saturday (Cookies and Cream II), which, like all our other Union nights will be fantastic. It is an honour to be asked to do this so close to the end of term, and is a reflection on the increasing success of the society over the last few years.
As a final thing tomorrow, the meeting will be a discussion on certain things, including the Union night itself along with choosing delegates to represent you at the NUS LGB conference in June. Wine and refreshments will be provided, and it would be great if you could join us for this last meeting prior to the AGM.
It has been a privelege to represent you all. I have really enjoyed doing it, and I wish everybody the best for the future.

Best wishes

Chris Ward
President 2004-2005
